One day, a call came into "Maria Call," the customer service center for our pregnancy test kits. It was from a woman who had married into a farming family in Hokkaido, and she tearfully pleaded, "I conceived my first child easily, but I'm having trouble conceiving my second. The pressure from those around me to give birth to a boy to inherit the family business is unbearable. Why can't I get pregnant...?" In response to this concern, we began an internal investigation. And we arrived at one answer. We discovered that many couples struggling with infertility mistakenly believe that the moment their basal body temperature peaks is their "ovulation day." Trying to conceive after ovulation is too late. At that moment, we strongly felt that not only pregnancy tests but also "ovulation prediction tests" were necessary for couples to conceive a child.
For women hoping to conceive, knowing their ovulation date in advance is crucial. Recognizing the need for such a tool, developers at Rohto Pharmaceutical began researching and developing an "ovulation prediction test kit." Leveraging their expertise in pregnancy tests, they applied technology to detect LH, the trigger for ovulation. Furthermore, they meticulously designed every detail, from the urine collection area to the cap, to ensure ease of use for customers. And thus, Rohto's first "ovulation prediction test kit" was completed.
Furthermore, we made a point of actively listening to customer feedback to incorporate it into our next products. As part of this effort, we included survey postcards with our products. We received a flood of responses, and sometimes we even received long letters that couldn't fit on a single postcard. This feedback was a great encouragement to our developers, who wanted to continue responding to the needs of each individual. And it was reflected in the creation of even better products.
The "Ovulation Prediction Test Kit" was born from a single phone call from a customer. Since its inception, the product has evolved year after year, and in 2016 it finally bore fruit as the "General-Use Ovulation Prediction Test Kit," becoming so readily available that it is sold in pharmacies and drugstores nationwide with pharmacists on staff.
Rohto Pharmaceutical will continue its activities by staying close to the feelings of our customers who want to become mothers and fathers.
