A survey on awareness of ultraviolet rays, broken down by age group, revealed that many people in their 40s and older felt that the following statements applied to them: "I regret not taking precautions against ultraviolet rays in the past" and "The ultraviolet rays I was exposed to in the past have now appeared as age spots." This indicates that many people regret their past sun protection efforts.
Regarding the statement, "I regret not taking precautions against UV rays in the past," 75.9% of women in their 40s and 50s answered "applies" or "somewhat applies." Similarly, regarding the statement, "Previous exposure to UV rays has resulted in age spots," 85.7% of women in their 40s and 50s answered "applies" or "somewhat applies."
From the tanning boom of the 1970s and 80s, when getting a tan at the beach in summer was considered healthy and cool, to the skin-whitening boom that began in 2000, where pale skin was considered beautiful, this seems to be a unique mindset for women in their 40s who have experienced both trends from childhood through their university years.
