Information entering through the ears and eyes is processed in a part of the brain called the hippocampus. This information is then sent to the cerebral cortex where it is stored as memory and retrieved when needed. This exchange of information through the brain's neural network is what enables us to "remember" and "recall." When this function declines for various reasons and the network stops working properly, symptoms of forgetfulness, such as being unable to recall or simply forgetting, occur.
