What is age-related body odor (nonenal)?
It is a component found in sebum produced by the sebaceous glands. Sebum containing palmitoleic acid, which is not produced much in young people, is oxidized by reactive oxygen species and converted into a component called nonenal, which produces odor.
This nonenal is called age-related body odor.
Why does body odor become more common after the age of 30?
As we age, the components of sebum change, and palmitoleic acid is produced, making us more prone to developing body odor associated with aging.
