Be careful of dry eyes in children even in winter!

Dry eye warning!

Children these days
Not enough tears?!

With computers, smartphones, and game consoles now commonplace, children's eyes are being strained just like adults'. Children are known for becoming completely absorbed in things they enjoy. When they're having fun, they become so focused that they forget to blink, but that's precisely when dry eyes are a warning sign! Yet, if they feel any discomfort in their eyes, they might rub them vigorously, worsening the symptoms. If you notice your child rubbing their eyes a lot or showing any other signs of discomfort, ask them to take a break.

Be especially careful during the dry winter months!

A major cause of dry eyes is a lack of tears. This is especially true for children, where dry tears are considered a direct cause. Staring at TVs or portable game consoles for extended periods, as well as dry air, can cause tears to dry out, so be especially careful in winter to avoid overusing your eyes and exposing them to direct drafts from heaters. Adjusting humidity with a humidifier or using eye drops to moisturize the eyes can also be effective.
