Lens fogging caused by lipid deposits?! Double cleaning to remove lipid and protein deposits!!Lens fogging caused by lipid deposits?! Double cleaning to remove lipid and protein deposits!!

For those of you who wear contact lenses.
Have you been experiencing any of these problems lately?

  • The lens tends to fog up and become cloudy in the evening.
  • Even though they're 2-week disposable lenses, they become blurry after 10 days.
  • Even after washing, the dirt is harder to remove.
  • It's the latest high-oxygen-permeability type, but is the same care as before sufficient?

The white haze in my vision is bothering me.
Could it be "lipid stains"?

Contact lenses
There are two types of stains: "protein stains" and "lipid stains."

Protein stains

Even with daily care, proteins in tears oxidize and harden, gradually accumulating on contact lenses. This is a major cause of gritty or foreign body sensations in the eyes.

Staining caused by lipids

Lipids and other substances secreted from the eyelids to prevent tear evaporation can adhere to contact lenses, causing them to become dirty. Also, foundation and hand cream can quickly cause lenses to fog up.

This lipid buildup is one of the main causes of lenses becoming cloudy and hazy. This buildup doesn't just impair your vision; if left untreated, it can lead to the growth of bacteria and fungi, potentially causing eye infections.
In fact, silicone hydrogel lenses, which are becoming the mainstream type of contact lens, are said to be prone to lipid buildup.

Silicone is prone to attracting lipid stains.

We developed this product with meticulous attention to all the necessary functions for soft contact lens care: disinfecting power, cleaning power, and comfort. Balancing these functions was a very challenging task.

Silicone hydrogel lenses
Why is it prone to grease buildup?

Silicone hydrogel lenses, as the name suggests, are soft contact lenses that use a next-generation material called "silicone hydrogel."

Conventional lenses primarily allow oxygen to pass through the water contained within the lens, but silicone hydrogel lenses achieve high oxygen permeability by allowing oxygen to pass directly through the material itself, as well as through the water contained within the lens. This is said to reduce dryness and redness of the eyes. As a result, these lenses, especially the 2-week type, now account for about 40% of the contact lens market *1, enjoying great popularity.

Conventional soft contact lenses are negatively charged (*2), so they attract and adsorb positively charged deposits such as proteins. On the other hand, silicone hydrogel lenses are not ionized, so proteins do not adhere to them, but because the lens itself has an oily nature, lipids tend to adhere to it. Therefore, it is important to choose a care solution that is compatible with silicone hydrogel lenses, which effectively removes not only protein deposits but also lipid deposits and prevents the lenses from becoming cloudy.

Advantages of silicone hydrogel contact lenses
  • Because it's made of a material that allows oxygen to pass directly through, it delivers more oxygen than conventional soft contact lenses.
  • It prevents dryness and redness, and helps keep your skin moisturized.
  • Protein stains are difficult to absorb.
Disadvantages of silicone hydrogel contact lenses
  • It is prone to getting greasy stains.
